Description
Develops youth, adult, senior recreation programs and special events on behalf of the City's Parks and Recreation Department; responds to program inquiries and complaints; provides customer service and assistance to participants; Oversees recreation center operations; prepares various types of program records and documentation; and performs other duties relative to area of assignment as required.
Examples of Duties

  • Participates in planning, coordinating, promoting, and implementing the City's recreation programming including recreation classes, community events, and recreation center operations.
  • Provides information to the Recreation Marketing Coordinator for the preparation and distribution of flyers, advertisements, news releases, and other types of marketing materials used to promote the City's recreation programs, activities, and events.
  • Provides excellent customer service to the public and various internal and external stakeholders.
  • Responds to various types of public inquiries regarding recreation programming matters; assists in resolving patron and participant complaints.
  • Interprets, applies, and explains rules and regulations governing recreation programs.
  • Coordinates participant registration process; receives and processes; provides information on rental rates and policies; receives rental fees; executes rental contracts for recreation centers.
  • Participates in the development and administration of recreation policies and procedures; determines goals, objectives, and priorities for areas of responsibility.
  • Provides for the delivery of high quality recreation facilities and services to the community.
  • Oversees, coordinates, and evaluates year-round recreation programs for youth and teens; plans, organizes, and implements those programs; supervises and manages contracted instructors.
  • Interviews applicants; coordinates program orientation and training for contracted instructors.
  • Oversees day to day operations of assigned city recreation centers.
  • Oversees and participates in routine facility maintenance activities.
  • Coordinates the purchase of cleaning, and/or other recreation supplies.
  • Manages cash receipts for area of assignment; prepares bank deposits; reconciles cash reports; submits revenue reports to the Finance Department.
  • Assists with developing facility and event budgets; monitors and authorizes recreation center expenditures.
  • Plans, coordinates, schedules, implements, administers, monitors, and evaluates recreation programs and activities for area of assignment; solicits program donations.
  • Prepares and maintains schedules for aquatics/dance classes, summer camps, and/or other types of recreation programming.
  • Compiles statistical data; prepares thorough projected budget for prior authorization of event, prepares post event after action reports, and formulates annual statistical data of participants and cost of each event/recreation center.
  • Coordinates with community groups/city departments regarding programming and/or facility usage.
  • Conducts inspections and monitors to ensure facilities/equipment are safely and properly maintained for use by the public; identifies and addresses maintenance requirements.

  • Supervises, trains, and evaluates the performance of assigned personnel; monitors and ensures staff/volunteer compliance with departmental policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Provides information on rental rates and policies, receives rental fees, and executes rental contracts.
  • Creates service requests through CityWorks for Operations and Maintenance, public works and other city departments.
  • Has full working knowledge of Activenet and is responsible for utilization of Activenet in daily operations
  • Continually develop as a professional, attending workshops and networking with other professionals that will promote new/innovative programming and special events.
  • Responsible for the planning and coordination of the department's special events (existing and new).
  • Provides support and assists the City-wide MLK events committee with planning MLK related events.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or required.
  • Provides supervision directly to four recreation coordinators.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Parks and Recreation, Recreation and Leisure Studies, Administration or related, and three years recreation programming experience to include two years supervisor experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Licenses or Certifications:
  • National Incident Management (NIMS) ICS certifications within one year of employment
  • Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License.
Required Skill in:
  • Administering and coordinating recreation programming and special events.
  • Providing for the delivery of high quality recreation programs/services to the community.
  • Maintaining compliance with regulations governing municipal recreation programming.
  • Responding to public inquiries and complaints regarding various program matters.
  • Supervising, leading and delegating tasks and authority.
  • Organizing athletic leagues, coordinating concession operations, and instructing recreation classes.
  • Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with other staff, City departments, outside agencies, community groups, and the general public.
Physical Demands/Work Environment

  • Work is performed in and around municipal recreation facilities.
  • Subject to sitting, standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting of objects up to 50 pounds; depending on area of assignment, work may be subject to occasional lifting of objects up to 100 pounds.
  • Exposure to variable weather conditions, machinery with moving parts, electrical currents, hazardous chemicals, infectious diseases, blood borne pathogens, and irate members of the public is involved.
